2. NBFME! presents Lovestorm and Pretty Bird concert Nov 10
On Thursday, November 10, the Charlotte Street Arts Centre will continue setting the stage for all things indie and emerging.
The New Brunswick Musicians Emerge (NB-ME! festival will kick off its fourth performance in the Charlotte Street Arts
Centre Auditorium from 8-10pm, featuring Lovestorm, and (lily pretty bird (claire .
Lovestorm will be celebrating the release of a new CD! Lovestorm has a growing reputation as an innovative and sultry duo
that delivers powerful and inspiring live performances. Written and recorded in the sweltering heat of Mexico’s Pacific Coast
and imbued with the sounds of surf and birds, Overripe drips with sensuality, hope and celebration. Undaunted by the
absence of their trademark instruments (the cello and harmonium , the duo fearlessly brought together novel sounds and
instruments for the recording.
Truly, not much is known about the Pretty Bird except that she’s part pixie, terribly tempestuous and absolutely enchanting in
every way possible. It is rumoured that she was studying to be an opera singer, being a dramatic coloratura soprano and
having a natural aptitude for music, and had quite a promising career set out on the horizon. She eventually found the
classical music “scene” to be dispassionate and stifling; the Pretty Bird ran away to join the scientific and philosophical circus
and has control of her own songs-- and is living quite happily ever after, so far...
The NB-ME! festival is open to the public, by a suggested minimum donation of 5. Audience members must be legal
drinking age to attend.
Funds raised during NB-ME will support the continuation of the festival as well as CSAC’s 2012 ArtReach programming.

Sarah’s Key
Gilles Paquet-Brenner
Cast: Kristin Scott Thomas, Melusine Mayance, Niels Arestrup, Frederic Pierrot
Run Time: 111 minutes
Country: France
Year: 2011
Language: French with English subtitles
A Gala Presentation at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival® and based on Tatiana de Rosnay’s bestselling novel of
the same name, Sarah’s Key is a fictionalized account of the actual roundups in Paris that sentenced thousands of Jewish
families to their deaths. Starring Kristin Scott Thomas (Nowhere Boy, I’ve Loved You So Long , the film is a harrowing and
profoundly moving tale about a terrible period of French history.
4
In the summer of 1942, ten-year-old Sarah Starzynski (Mélusine Mayance knows something is wrong. There is a panic
spreading through the city. The French gendarmes, supposedly under order from the Vichy government and Nazi occupiers,
are going door-to-door arresting Jewish families and imprisoning them in the Vélodrome d'Hiver. Little does Sarah know that,
after the imprisonment, they will be sent to Nazi death camps. In an attempt to save her family, she locks her four-year-old
brother, Michel in a bedroom cupboard–their secret hiding place. She promises to return for him, but she and her parents are
dragged from their home forever.
Sixty years later, journalist Julia Jarmond (Scott Thomas is assigned to write a cover story on the Vel’ d’Hiv roundup of
1942. American by birth, Julia has been living in Paris for more than twenty years, and is married to Bertrand Tézac
(Frédéric Pierrot , an unfaithful man from an old French bloodline. What begins as research for her article becomes more
personal when Julia discovers that she and Sarah have something in common, prompting her to change her outlook on her
husband, her adopted nation and herself.
Evocatively shot, with a solid ensemble cast lead by a pitch-perfect Scott Thomas, Sarah’s Key provides a realistic and
morally complex approach to history that is as captivating as it is unforgettable.

Featuring a fantastic multi generational cast, B.O.P's first production in Fredericton tells the story of wealthy businessman
John Dale, who hasn't enjoyed a "real Christmas" for years. So, on the spur of the moment, he decides to "rent" a Christmas
from Anne Weston, who owns the local rent shop. Anne is at first flustered with the requirements: a tree with presents,
Christmas carols and also a wife and five children. Anne feels she has solved the problem of a Christmas family by calling
the actors' guild. But the young actors come down with the measles so she turns to the local orphanage. When the guild
can't locate a "mother," Anne steps in to play the role herself.
Based on the short story by J. Lillian Vandervere, the story of how John Dale’s rented Christmas turns into a new life for all
concerned makes this a warm story for the holiday season.

21. Plein Air Painters of New Brunswick (PAPNB
Although painting en plein air is a time-honoured tradition, the benefits of painting outdoors from life and the increase in
artistic growth from painting with others seems to have gone largely unnoticed in Fredericton. The primary goal of PAPNB is
to further the practice of plein air painting within Fredericton, within New Brunswick and even within the region.
We have created a very informal plein air painting group and anticipate no rules, no instruction, no competitiveness, no fixed
schedule...just fun and camaraderie within a serious and supportive painting environment. We will strive for excellence and
will hope to learn from each other. It is anticipated that we will have several paint-outs this fall to see how we want to develop
and be ready for bigger things in the spring.

22. Painting A Colourful Future for Women and Children at the Charlotte Street Centre
Heart to Hand, a new initiative launched through the Charlotte Street Arts Centre’s ArtReach programming with Liberty Lane
(second stage transition housing for women , recently inspired creativity and transformation in the community.
ArtReach artists were invited to come together at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre to participate in a day of artistic
collaboration, reflection and painting. Over the course of a day, seven artists volunteered to create six paintings inspired by
self-reflective poetry written by the women residents at Liberty Lane. These women were aware that their words would be
used to inspire visual artworks for the Liberty Lane facility, to be hung on the walls in their shared space in order to promote
healing and wellbeing.
ArtReach is a touching process for everyone involved, and Liberty Lane is a shining example of how community arts-based
education can enhance the lives of not only individuals, but also add to the cultural growth of our province.
Special thanks go to our partners at Liberty Lane, Endeavours Art, The Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation, and to
participating artists, including Biff Mitchell, Dana O'Regan, Chris Giles, Erica Sullivan, Ysabelle Vautour, Amanda Jardine and
Marie Fox.
